A week ago, ESPN Brasil explained Leeds United have ‘recently’ included FC Basel star Arthur Cabral on their transfer agenda for the future.
The striker has been prolific this season, managing 23 goals and eight assists in 24 matches in all competitions. Despite his achievements not really getting much coverage, it’s no surprise the impressive statistics from Basel’s little known star have drawn attention from clubs across the continent.
He is on the front page of today’s edition of Sport, with the words: ‘Barca negotiates for Arthur Cabral.’
Within the report, it’s claimed the Brazilian is in ‘pole position’ to become the La Liga side’s new No.9 in the winter market. His profile meets the requirements of the Catalan club’s sporting leaders to bolster Barca’s attacking division for the second half of this season.
Cabral’s name was endorsed to Barcelona by their former player, Deco, who is now the club’s head of scouting for Portugal and Brazil.
There are ‘open negotiations’ to bring the South American to the Camp Nou in January. The Spanish club are working on a formula that could help them immediately acquire the player’s services. Sport say the transfer could be concluded for €15-20m.
It’s claimed the frontman is delighted with the possibility to join Xavi Hernández’s side.
Barca, however, are not the only club looking at him as his ‘progression for Basel’ has ‘caught the attention’ of Leeds United.
According to the report, Marcelo Bielsa has ‘wanted’ Cabral for Leeds.
If Leeds are willing to pay a fee around €15-20m, they could be in contention to sign Cabral in January.
