Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has told the Spanish media it’s too early to say whether his team will be in a relegation battle come the end of the season.
Benitez’s side were promoted back to the Premier League last season, and they’ve made an impressive start to their 2017/18 campaign.
In an interview with Marca, Benitez was asked how he sees the season unfolding for Newcastle United: “In the next matches against the best we will know if we are to fight for the top or to fight against relegation. The aspiration, once we consolidate in the Premier, is to be in the top 10.”
Newcastle United currently lie 7th in the Premier League table after recording another victory last weekend, this time against Crystal Palace. They are now just two points behind Arsenal and Chelsea, and ahead of the likes of Liverpool, Leicester City and Everton.
However, Benitez’s team have some tricky games ahead of them, with the standout one being Manchester United at Old Trafford next month.
Newcastle United also have tough away games against Burnley and West Bromwich Albion in November, before they host Chelsea at the start of December.
