It’s been a couple of weeks since we last heard about Everton’s interest in Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes, even if the last stories said the Toffees were close on the signing, the rumour went completely silent after that.
Well, as newspaper Record today features a short article on the situation, they confirm that the Goodison Park side are no longer interested in him that much.
The newspaper points out the midfielder was ‘very close’ on moving to Everton back when Nuno Espírito Santo was linked to the position left by Carlo Ancelotti.
However, with the Portuguese manager moving to Tottenham Hotspur, and the Toffees announcing the arrival of Rafa Benitez instead, the business ‘lost gas’, and it’s now more likely Nunes will move to another interested club.
Everton and Sporting were said to be in talks for a move worth around €18m, despite the midfielder’s €60m release clause with the Lions.
Back on the 16th of June, Sport Witness was told that the negotiations weren’t as advanced as the Portuguese newspapers had been reported.
We also got to learn that Gestifute, the same company who represents Nuno Espírito Santo, were involved in the talks.
With the manager going elsewhere, it’s not really a surprise that the talks for Nunes have lost its intensity.
