Signed from Rapid Vienna in 2019, Sassuolo’s Mert Müldür didn’t take long to catch the eye of bigger clubs with his performances.
While still not a guaranteed starter in Italy, the player remains a recurring feature in Roberto De Zerbi’s plans, having made an appearance in 28 league games so far this season.
Clubs like Tottenham have allegedly been sniffing around, which is something Spox mention on Monday, as we all know Spurs could do with a new right-back.
The rumours surrounding the future of Serge Aurier suggest the club will be looking to add to the position in the coming months, especially since the £15m Matt Doherty experiment never really working out.
Speaking to Kronen Zeitung and relayed by Spox, he said: “There are always talks with top clubs in Italy and England. However, it always failed because of the transfer fee. A transfer is currently not an issue.
“He feels very much at home [at Sassuolo]. There is a very good defensive development with him. Nowhere else can you improve defensively and tactically as you do in Italy”.
It isn’t specifically mentioned whether Tottenham are among the clubs Hagmayr has been chatting to, but Spox do state the Premier League side is said ‘to have already expressed an interest’.
To us, that sounds like they reached out.
