Sunderland youngster Pierre Ekwah would ‘fit the profile’ for French side RC Lens as they look to bolster their options in January.
That’s according to Jeunes Footeux, who profile the midfielder and speculate that he could be a player the French side are looking at.
They explain that Lens will be deprived of Nampalys Mendy and Salis Abdul Sames for several weeks during the Africa Cup of Nations and, as a result, they will be forced to recruit in midfield.
The question is whether they will look for experience or youth, with the trend currently focused on the latter more than the former.
According to them, Foot Mercato journalist Sébastien Denis recently indicated interest in a young, unnamed player who would cost more than €10m while journalist Sacha Tavolieri later indicated it could be Royal Antwerp’s Pierre Dwomoh.
That’s because he’s only 21-years-old but has already established himself as a starter for Sunderland and can also play at centre-back if needed, all traits valued highly by the French side.
As well as that he is ‘tall, powerful, good technically and at recovery’ further characteristics that they think make him an attractive proposition.
They also think he fits into the aforementioned price bracket, with Sunderland unlikely to sell for less than €9-10m even though he’s currently valued around €1.8m.
The website say that after featuring in the youth teams at Nantes, Chelsea and West Ham, Ekwah has now ‘clearly reached a milestone’ at Sunderland and that could have put him on the radar at Lens.
It’s all speculation at this point but with the likes of Denis dropping hints about a move, they think he could be a name to keep an eye on moving forwards.
