Hakim Ziyech would prefer to join Tottenham over a return to Ajax this summer as returning to the Netherlands would be seen as a failure.
That’s according to analyst Johan Derksen, who believes Tottenham are a more interesting prospect for the player should he leave his current club.
The Morocco international has been linked with a move away from the Blues all summer, having struggled to establish himself under Thomas Tuchel again last season.
Ajax are eyeing him up as a replacement for Antony, who is being linked with a €100m move to Manchester United, although there are issues in getting their former star back to the Amsterdam ArenA.
While the Dutch giants are working on a deal, Tottenham have been named as another potential destination for the forward.
They are continuing to strengthen Antonio Conte’s squad before the end of the transfer window and a report in the Netherlands stated last night that they are ready to sign the forward from their London rivals.
And Derksen believes that would appeal more to the player than a return to Ajax, despite a disappointing spell in England thus far.
“I can imagine that he prefers Tottenham, because he wants to succeed in England,” he told Vandaag Inside, relayed by Ajax Showtime.
“(Returning to Ajax is) a bit as a rejection. He would be received with applause here, that would be a warm welcome, but instinctively the boy has failed in England.”
Fellow analyst René Van der Gijp echoed his colleagues statement, believing the 29-year-old will prefer Spurs if their interest is genuine.
“If you can play at Tottenham or you play against Sparta, RKC or Go Ahead, then you go there, right?” he added.
