Manchester United are among the ‘most feasible’ options for Atlético Madrid midfielder Saúl as he seeks a move this summer.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the Spaniard will not leave unless he is offered a ‘very interesting project’, and that has made things complicated.
The newspaper states that Atlético ‘want to sell’ Saúl this summer as they know they need to sell before they can buy.
Saúl currently has a contract at the club until 2026, and that includes a €150m release clause, but the colchoneros ‘would be willing’ to negotiate a deal at around €80m.
That’s a figure that few clubs would be able to pay, and so, despite reports naming several clubs as being keen, it is actually Manchester United and Juventus who ‘have more options’ to get a deal done.
Saúl, though, is not keen on any old move. He is interested in leaving as he thinks he would be more valued at another club.
However, he needs an offer that will ‘captivate him’ and would not consider leaving the Wanda Metropolitano if it meant a salary reduction. That is another issue for any suitors as there are few who can match his current earnings.
Because of that, and Atlético’s asking price, one of the possible ways to get a deal done is via a ‘barter’. The problem is with whom.
The transfer would only take place if there was a player that interests Diego Simeone, and ‘that is not easy’.
Couple that with his transfer price, wages and reluctance to move if it’s not sold to him, a departure is ‘not at all clear’ at this point.
Manchester United are an option, though, and it’s felt that if anyone is to get the midfielder, it will be them or Juventus and not some of the other names already mentioned.
