It would not be surprising if PSV Eindhoven take ‘financial risks’ to sign defender Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton in the final ten days of the transfer window.

That’s according to journalist Sjoerd Mossou, who believe it would fit into the strategy at the Dutch club to spend big on the centre back.

Branthwaite spent last season on loan at PSV from Everton, joining the Dutch club in search of regular playing time to aid his development.

He certainly ended up with that, becoming a first-team regular under former manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy and earning plenty of admirers as a result.

PSV have been keen to get him back on a permanent basis this summer, but a deal appeared to be dead in the water as Everton had put a big asking price on the defender that they did not want to pay.

They’ve reignited their interest in the last few days, though, with reports in the Netherlands stating that plans were underway to try and get the defender out of Everton.

Mossou believes that makes sense, despite the fact they had given up earlier this summer because of Everton’s demands.

“It’s not that strange that PSV ends up at Branthwaite, is it?” PSV Fans report him saying.

“Wasn’t that boy quite reasonable? It makes it remarkable that Everton initially asked too much, and PSV is now trying again.

“In general, that applies to what PSV does. They clearly take financial risks, with the opportunities that are there: The play-off against Rangers and the two Champions League tickets.

“They take flight and spend quite a bit of money And Branthwaite would fit right in because it was too expensive to begin with.”
