Tottenham Hotspur’s recent spate of contract extensions looks like it could be added to soon. Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad report in their Wednesday edition that Jan Vertonghen is now close to a renewal.
Het Nieuwsblad headline their article ‘Jan Vertonghen longer at Tottenham’, and that’s the crux of it. It’s believed Vertonghen is close to an extension and that getting everything finalised is on the club’s ‘priority list’.
Vertonghen joined Tottenham in 2012 from Ajax, and since Toby Alderweireld moved to the club, the pair has rekindled their partnership.
Both players were at Germinal Beerschot as youngsters, before they both moved to Ajax, and then on to Tottenham.
The two defenders have played together extensively for Belgium, both at senior level and through the levels. Alderweireld has a contract with Tottenham until 2020, as long as an option is excercised.
