Laurent Koscielny is seeing his profile rise quite a bit at the moment. His prominence at Euro 2016 for the host nation has obviously encouraged the European media to take note, and that inevitably leads to transfer rumours.
Already linked with Real Madrid interest this week, on Friday German newspaper Bild report that he also has a fan at Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
The club’s technical director Michael Reschke is said to be a big Koscielny admirer, to the point that he’s recommended the player to Bayern.
Koscielny would be used as a back-up to Jerome Boateng, and new signing Mats Hummels.
Mehdi Benatia could be leaving Bayern this summer, and repeated injuries to Holger Badstuber mean it would be a risk relying on him to be available for the whole season.
The 30 year old French defender has one year left on his Arsenal contract according to Transferamkrt, but that may be inaccurate. When Koscielny extended his Arsenal contract in 2014, the club didn’t make the length public, saying it was a new ‘long term’ deal.
Since then Koscielny has said that when he finishes his current Arsenal contract, he’ll have been been with the club 10 years. Given that he joined in 2010, that would suggest there’s a deal until 2020.
Maybe the truth is somewhere between.
