Middlesbrough are currently seventh in the Championship and potential additions to their squad on deadline day could give them a push towards promotion.

While Michael Carrick’s side have made four signings already, one more could be on the way.

The player in question is Aston Villa’s Samuel Iling-Junior, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Bologna.

Gianluca di Marzio has reported that the winger will join Middlesbrough on a loan deal until the end of the season.

One key reason for the transfer is regular game time and Aston Villa are keen on making sure that the Englishman develops, having played only seven times in the Serie A this season. The player wants to impress his parent club in the coming months as well.

At the same time, Bologna-based outlet Il Resto del Carlino are confident that the move to Middlesbrough will go through ‘barring any surprises’.

The report states that contacts between the Italian club and Aston Villa were constant in the last few days, as the Premier League side were confident of finding a new club for Iling-Junior in England.

The 21-year-old is a product of Chelsea’s youth academy and his stint at Middlesbrough will be the first time he will play senior level football in England.
