Catalan outlet Sport has today a front cover about Ter Stegen, followed by four other pages talking about the goalkeeper’s situation at Barcelona.
They claim the Camp Nou side have been struggling to give him a new contract, even though his initial wish is to stay at the club.
There’s some concern about the situation because there are several sides who’d be interested in him, including Juventus, Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
Barcelona’s intention is to renew his contract before June, and in their last meeting with his entourage, they’ve offered him a deal worth €6.5m per year until 2024.
The thing is that there are players in the squad who aren’t even starters and make more money than that. That’s why the goalkeeper rejected this last offer and continues to negotiate.
Ter Stegen is said to be focused on staying at Barça, and that’s why he’s turned down a meeting with Juventus.
Bayern Munich are said to be ‘very attentive’ to the situation as they want to find Manuel Neuer’s successor, and Chelsea’s interest is ‘being talked in England’, which should mean the outlet trusts the rumours from the English press.
Sport says Barcelona are not selling the goalkeeper, and he’s well protected for now, with a contract until 2022 and a release clause of €180m.
Still, the difficulty to extend his deal is a concern, as the plan is to hold him for many more years, instead of letting him go somewhere else, like Stamford Bridge.
