On January 21st, Mundo Deportivo reported that Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu, along with other leaders of the club, visited Ajax’s Frenkie de Jong in Amsterdam last Thursday.
Bartomeu made a few arguments as to why the midfielder should join his side, with the player also attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.
Catalunya Radio journalist Oriol Domènech discussed the Netherlands international in program ‘El Club de la Mitjanit’ and his comments are relayed in today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo.
Since their last meeting, the Catalan club have maintained contacts with the player, his agent Ali Dursun and his father, while their competitors have also held talks with the Dutchman’s environment.
Barca have raised their offer to Ajax and there is a possibility that other potential suitors could match their proposal for the 21-year-old.
The La Liga winners are still waiting for the ‘definitive answer’ from the Dutchman and it’s decisive hours for the Eredivise star as he’s expected to make a decision on his future between today and tomorrow.
There’s a possibility that Ajax could announce De Jong’s next club on their official website and Ernesto Valverde’s side will be eagerly waiting to know the midfielder’s decision.
