Barcelona made a bid to sign Borussia Monchengladbach striker Alassane Pléa in the January transfer window amid their hunt for a new forward.
The Spanish side found themselves in desperate need of a new striker in the winter window after Luis Suárez was ruled out injured for the rest of the season.
They eventually signed Martin Braithwaite from Leganés in an emergency deal when Ousmane Dembélé was also ruled out injured.
Before then, though, they had explored numerous potential options to solve the issue, and according to BILD, Plea was one of them.
They report that Barcelona enquired about the French forward, who has eight goals and eight assists in 28 games this season.
They intended to pay ‘between €40m and €50m’, which was ‘promised’ to director of football Max Eberl.
However, he immediately rejected the proposal. Pléa was determined as to critical in Gladbach’s attempts to secure Champions League football, while they also knew there would be no time to find an ‘adequate substitute’.
There were, therefore, no ‘concrete discussions’ between the two clubs, with Gladbach’s resistance meaning Barça’s interest was nothing more than a passing one.
