Rui Patricio really should now be a Wolves player.
The Premier League club agreed an €18m fee with Sporting and then everything fell to pieces because of a disagreement between the Portuguese club’s president Bruno de Carvalho and Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency.
So annoyed was Patricio that it pushed him to cancel his contract with the Lisbon club, something which could lead to a court battle. That has caught the attention of clubs and media around Europe, and Mundo Deportivo report he could be an option for Barcelona.
Jasper Cillessen is attracting attention from several clubs and may leave to be first choice elsewhere, should that happen then the Dutchman will need replacing. Patricio has been named as one of the club’s options, and his contract situation detailed.
If Barcelona could sell Cillessen for €30m+ then replace him with Patricio for free it would be good business.
This could cause worry for Wolves. A series of things need to happen before Barca can swoop but just that Patricio is being linked shows attention is being paid to his situation.
With the Portuguese media reporting Wolves are still considering the move, the English club will hope it can all be sorted out soon.
