Mateu Alemany is already working as football director at Barcelona, even if his position hasn’t been made official yet.

Mundo Deportivo report Alemany, who was part of Joan Laporta’s presidential effort towards the end of the campaign, is acting as though his appointment has already been announced, despite Barcelona not officially communicating it to the media yet.

The new Barca man has been seen at the club’s offices for the past few days, where he’s been conducting meetings with vice-president Raya Yuste and technical secretary Ramon Planes.

Planes is expected to continue at the club.

According to Mundo, Barcelona will make Alemany’s position official in April, to give time for the incorporation of Jordi Cryuff to be negotiated fully.

Alemany’s most pressing role in the coming months will be to help shape the Catalan club’s recruitment for the coming season.

As well as signing players, that also includes the rather less exciting, but just as important, task of getting rid of ones no longer wanted.
