Former England manager Fabio Capello revealed that Jose Mourinho wanted Manchester United to sign Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar and Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli in the summer transfer window.
Unfortunately, neither of the deals took shape as the two players have continued with their current employers, but it looks like there are other clubs following the Napoli player.
Journalist Miguel Rico, writing for Mundo Deportivo, talks about the Senegalese international, who holds a French passport, in Friday’s edition of the Catalan newspaper.
He says Barcelona scouts were in attendance of several Champions League matches that took place this week and specifically mentions Napoli’s game against Liverpool.
Ariedo Braida, the La Liga winners’ international scout, was at the Stadio San Paolo to watch the 27-year-old in action as Carlo Ancelotti’s side sealed a narrow 1-0 victory over the Reds.
Koulibaly started alongside Raúl Albiol in the heart of the back four and was instrumental in keeping the Merseyside club from registering a single shot on target. Rico claims that the Camp Nou outfit have been ‘following’ the defender for several years as he has been their ‘goal’ for a long time.
However, Napoli’s asking price of €65m has put off the Spanish champions and that has been the ‘problem’ for them. The report does not indicate whether Barcelona are planning to make an approach for the player soon.
