Following Barcelona’s excellent win over Tottenham on Wednesday, the talk was all about Lionel Messi and what a good display the Argentine had put on at Wembley.
But there was a more negative side story. Arturo Vidal posted an angry face on social media, with it being taken as a sign of the player’s frustration at not being used enough.
The midfielder has just 164 La Liga minutes this season, added to 8 in the Champions League gained over two matches. Coming on for the final three minutes against Spurs may have been a humiliation for a player who has always carried huge pride in himself and his achievements.
Catalan newspaper Sport reports Vidal has made a ‘grave error’ with the post, and it goes against what an experienced player should be doing. After a rocky start to the season, Ernesto Valverde has tailored the team to suit Messi more, and that’s hit both Vidal and Ousmane Dembele.
Sport question whether it’s a signal that the Chilean sees himself as being above the team.
And if that’s the case, Vidal’s stay at Barcelona won’t last very long.
