Youri Tielemans made the right choice in moving to Aston Villa, despite the fact he’s only just managed to break into the first team.

That’s according to analyst Filip Joos, who believes the midfielder has lost the ‘baby fat’ that he once had at Leicester City.

The Belgian midfielder joined Aston Villa on a free transfer in the summer when his contract with Leicester City came to an end.

The belief had been that he would immediately slot into Unai Emery’s midfielder but that has not been the case, with him playing a substitute role at best under the Spaniard so far.

That’s naturally led to questions, and even rumours that he could be on the move in the January transfer window.

He has, however, found himself back in the picture in the last few weeks, appearing in the starting 11 for the win against Fulham, the draw with Bournemouth and the wins over Manchester City and Arsenal.

He’s very much been able to show what he’s about and stake a claim for a place, and Joos thinks he’s seen one major change that’s making a difference.

“He made the right choice to move there,” he said.

“Trainer Unai Emery is a godsend for those kinds of guys. I think it’s great that he fought his way into the team and played football.

“His baby fat on his cheeks is completely gone due to the miles he travels. He is the first to go hunting.”
