Jordan Veretout is having a good start to his Fiorentina career, but perhaps things are getting a little carried away.
On Tuesday, Italy’s Calciomercato have published an article claiming AC Milan and Juventus both tried to sign the midfielder from Aston Villa.
For Milan, the timing goes back to summer 2016, when they identified Veretout as a possible cheap signing, ignored his period with Aston Villa and preferred to see his earlier promise, and then initiated contact.
Aston Villa asked for €12m, and that was the end of that.
Now it gets even stranger. Calciomercato reckon that after Veretout had moved to Saint-Etienne on loan, Juventus considered signing him from Aston Villa in the January window (despite the loan)… but nothing came of it.
This is all fortunate for Fiorentina, who it’s stated paid Aston Villa €7m in the last summer transfer window.
Villa should have put a sell-on percentage in this one, because, exaggerated or not, Veretout’s star is rising since he left Steve Bruce and Villa Park.
