As Luis Suarez prepares to leave Atletico Madrid at the end of his contract this summer, there are obviously many clubs interested in signing the Uruguayan as a free agent.
Since the striker is 35-years-of-age, a few South American sides saw the scenario as an opportunity to take a long shot and try to land him this summer.
So as Brazilian outlet UOL features a piece on Suarez’s situation, it’s said the player is more likely to stay in Europe, where Aston Villa emerge as one of the clubs in the race for him.
It’s claimed that the player was contacted by officials from at least three Brazilian clubs. They were all told he’s not moving back to South America this summer. Approaches from MLS have all been turned down as well.
In Europe, the clubs said to have a ‘strong interest’ in his signing are Aston Villa, Inter Milan and Sevilla.
The good news for Villa is that, according to UOL, people close to the player believe the ‘best path’ would be a return to the Premier League for at least one season.
So if Steven Gerrard wants a reunion with Suarez this summer, he could have an advantage in this race.
