Jordan Amavi, freshly back from the horrific injury he suffered last season, had started to slowly return under Roberto Di Matteo before the Italian manager got sacked for poor performances.
Playing in six of Aston Villa’s first 11 games of the season, rotating with Aly Cissokho, the left-back was called back to France’s U21s by Pierre Mankowski, much to the player’s surprise.
Speaking to France Football about his summer, the player admitted he received a phone call from the now former Aston Villa manager to let him know he counted on him for the current season, which put his mind at ease a bit.
In fact, the player didn’t really think about leaving at all.
He said: “Staying wasn’t a forced decision. The club counts on me, I was determined to come back from my injury. Especially since I received many messages from fans. They appreciate me, and even made a song for me.
“I can’t sing it, you can look it up on the internet. I was a away a long time, but they’ve always been behind me, always believed in me. They never stopped sending me messages.”
If there’s one reason to stay at a club, we guess the fans’ love is up there.
As things stand, Aston Villa are currently 19th in the Championship after 11 games, picking up a measly 10 points along the way.
