As far as La Provence are concerned, Marseille have made an offer to Jordan Amavi, and that’s that.
Whether the left-back, key to Steve Bruce so far this season, wants to join is a different matter, but the offer has been passed on to his representatives, who were expected to come back with a “yes, no or maybe if you change this” answer in the near future.
While this isn’t very ethical, everyone knows it goes on in football, and there’s very little that can be done to stop it.
Even if Amavi did agree to leave Villa Park in January to return to the south of France, there remains a big stumbling block, and that’s Aston Villa themselves, who, according to La Provence on Thursday, are refusing to let their player go.
Much like Dimitri Payet at West Ham, the English club are in no way inclined to let one of their best players leave midway through the season, especially in such an important campaign as the Villains try and regain promotion to the Premier League following their disappoint relegation under Tim Sherwood and Rémi Garde.
That’s where things stand right now, and it’s not really surprising.
Marseille are said to have other targets for the left-back spot, a priority for them this January, but those names are yet to filter through to the local press.
