According to an exclusive report from Turkish newspaper Sabah, Aston Villa were on their way to signing Galatasaray defender Christian Luyindama in the January transfer window, but the player recently picked up a serious injury whilst playing for his country.
Last week it was confirmed the central defender has been ruled out for the remainder of the season because of a ACL rupture he sustained with DR Congo.
Sabah report Galatasaray’s board are particularly unhappy with the news because they were planning to sell Luyindama to Aston Villa for €14m in the next window.
It’s claimed the Premier League side were looking to seal a deal for the former Standard Liege defender in January and the Turkish club were keen on the idea.
Galatasaray’s initial plan was to sell Luyindama to Villa and then fund their incoming transfers in January, but after his injury it seems those plans are now off.
Luyindama will spend the rest of the season on the sidelines and he’s not expected to return until the start of the next season.
