Pepe Reina joined Aston Villa on loan from AC Milan in January as Dean Smith’s side sought out a replacement for injured Tom Heaton.
The goalkeeper’s temporary stay with the Birmingham club is until the end of this season.
On February 12th, Tuttosport reported Milan want Reina back at the club for next season, especially with Gianluigi Donnarumma’s future at the club being uncertain.
It was also explained the ex-Liverpool man can act as a replacement for Donnarumma or as a back up to the latter’s replacement.
Il Milanista now claims otherwise. They state Reina’s future at the Italian club ‘has already been decided’ and he will not be included in their plans for next season, ‘regardless of the sale or renewal of Donnarumma’.
Villa have an option to make the player’s transfer permanent and the website reckons the possibility of Reina continuing in the Premier League is ‘not excluded’.
If Villa decide against extending Reina’s stay, he will return to Milan in the summer and then have to find a new club in the same window because the Spaniard has no future at the San Siro.
