It would appear the media closest to AS Roma are finally accepting that signing Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa is something which is unlikely to be happening in the near future.
The midfielder has been linked with the Serie A club for quite some time, and with Jose Mourinho wanting a player in the Brazilian’s position, the claims were encouraged.
Il Romanista takes a look at the situation and the midfield targets Roma are going for. When it comes to the Aston Villa player it’s stated he’s the first choice of sporting director Tiago Pinto.
Despite being the ‘favourite’ for Pinto, there’s an acceptance that with the Premier League club asking for €35m, and Steven Gerrard’s side generally being against a sale, a transfer is unlikely.
Other options are therefore being looked at.
Even that €35m figure appears to have been plucked from thin air, or Transfermarkt’s valuations to be more precise. There’s every chance Aston Villa would ask for more considering Luiz is still only 23-years-of-age and has plenty of time to grow.
Aston Villa probably do need to start looking at their player’s contract situation, to avoid being under pressure and to make sure Douglas Luiz holds and potentially increases his value.
