So the Aston Villa player of course gained a lot more attention from South America, and it was no different in his side’s 4-1 defeat to West Ham United at the weekend.
As pointed out by Argentine outlet Olé, multiple Colombia fans took to social media to make fun of the stopper, after the goals conceded by Martinez in that match.
During that Copa America game, his most famous words were “Look that I eat you”. Now that was used against him a few times.
“The most overrated goalkeeper in then world”, other comments said, while it was also claimed that “his nose is bigger than his career”.
Martinez became a national team figure and it’s now inevitable that he’ll get stick from other South American fans. Following the Copa America title, Argentina are now second in the World Cup qualifiers, and the Aston Villa player is very likely to be their number one goalkeeper in Qatar next year.
