Marvelous Nakamba has not turned up for Club Brugge’s preseason training as he wants to force a transfer, and Aston Villa are interested in the midfielder.
Three days ago, Het Laatste Nieuws reported the Premier League newcomers offered €12.2m for the Zimbabwean a month ago, but wanted Brugge to loan a player from them for a few million.
This proposal was not accepted by the Jupiler Pro League side, and the claims didn’t feel watertight.
HLN now claims the 25-year-old wants to leave Brugge at all costs and his decision to go AWOL could have had an impact.
Dean Smith’s side felt the player absolutely wanted to come to England, which convinced them to make a new offer in excess of €12m. There are no other players involved as part of the deal.
The negotiations between the two clubs are in the final stretch and the deal could be finalised today or tomorrow. Nakamba is in England for his medical at Villa.
He gets his wish fulfilled, but only after Brugge made sure their asking price of €12m was met.
