While it was clear that RC Lens had a good player in Seko Fofana, the levels at which the 26-year-old has played this season has impressed everyone.
The Ivory Coast international has been instrumental to his club’s good form this campaign, and has, in the process, caught the eye of various Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa and Leicester City.
Both clubs have histories of plucking talent from Ligue 1 in the past, with some signings more successful than others, and it appears both the Foxes and the Villans could give it another go.
But! Football Club report that Aston Villa and Leicester ‘strongly appreciate’ Fofana’s profile, who already knows England fairly well, having spent three years with Manchester City’s U21s before heading to Italy with Udinese.
It’s not said how much the midfielder would cost but with two years left on his contract, Lens have some negotiating room to try and get a decent fee.
We’ll have to wait and see if Leicester and Aston Villa take this any further, but with Steven Gerrard recently spotted in France to watch a Marseille game, it’s clear this is a pool being targeted by Premier League clubs, who aren’t afraid to wave their chequebooks around in the faces of Ligue 1 clubs to convince them to part ways with their best players.
