Aston Villa summer signing Jonathan Kodjia was hit with a fine by his former club Bristol City before he made the move to Villa Park. The Ivory Coast international signed for the Championship side this summer for a fee of £11m, which could rise to £15m.

The Bristol Post have confirmed Kodjia was fined two weeks wages after he refused to play in a game earlier in the season. The forward told the Bristol City coaching staff he didn’t want to feature in his side’s EFL clash with Scunthorpe United last month, and consequently was hit with the maximum fine allowed under FA regulations.

Kodjia was still named as a substitute for the game to allegedly cover up the incident, but Lee Johnston had no intention of playing the forward. Several days later the player joined Aston Villa.

Kodjia only joined Aston Villa close to the transfer deadline, and because of the international break he’s yet to make his debut for his new club. The 26-year-old is likely to be involved this weekend in Aston Villa’s home fixture against Nottingham Forest.
