Aston Villa were one of seven sides to send scouts to watch Porto’s clash with Moreirense on Friday evening.

That’s according to Record, who report that Aston Villa, Sassuolo, Lille, Feyenoord, Roma, Nice and Marseille were the clubs present at the Dragão to watch Porto’s eventual 3-1 victory.

The newspaper makes no mention of whom the club there to watch in particular, just that Aston Villa were among the sides who sent a representative to the game.

That person will have seen a star performance from Samu Aghehowa, who scored twice in the game, putting Porto into the lead in the 70th minute before scoring the third goal from the spot in the 79th minute.

Porto had found themselves behind in the game after Yan Lincon Farias de Sousa opened the scoring in the 31st minute. Francisco Moura levelled the scored in the 40th minute before Aghehowa got his double midway through the second half to secure all three points for his side.

The double took him to 18 goals in the league this season in 28 games and 24 goals in 40 games in all competitions. He also has three assists to his name.

Aston Villa have been credited with an interest in Aghehowa for more than a year and a report back in February insisted they continued to monitor him.

We would be comfortable saying they may have been in Porto on Friday to watch him as a result, and two goals certainly won’t have dampened their fondness.
