Marseille manager Jorge Sampaoli has admitted Boubacar Kamara is likely to leave this summer, with Aston Villa chasing the midfielder.

Kamara is out of contract with the French side and is unlikely to sign another deal with them, leaving him free to move elsewhere.

He’s been linked with clubs all around Europe, including Aston Villa, who have been chasing his signature for some time.

Recent reports have seen them pushing to get a deal over the line, with one today stating that they ‘threaten’ to steal the player away from other clubs.

Where he ends up remains to be seen, but it seems a transfer is likely, with his current manager Jorge Sampaoli confirming as much today as he hit out at the player’s agents.

“There are other things that come into play; it’s not about the sport, but rather the entourages,” Le 10 Sport report him saying.

“He was very good for us this season; he played in several positions. He has always been very honest; he has played with heart. I respect him.

“He has progressed a lot. I’m happy to see him called up to the French team. He has a lot of talent. If this is his last game, we will be sad, but we will wish him the best.

“Afterwards, on the fact of knowing why he did not extend his contract, it is not for me to make the analysis.

“There are other parameters that come into play; it does not concern the sport, but rather the entourage. As a coach, we always want to keep our players for the future, but we do not have this influence; it is rather other things that have influence.”

Whether Aston Villa can win the race to sign Kamara remains to be seen, given the competition for his signature.

Atlético Madrid are known to be big admirers as well, and it was reported earlier this month that they are confident he will end up at the Wanda Metropolitano.

They claim to have a verbal agreement with the midfielder and can offer Champions League football as well, so should be ahead of Villa.

Money can talk, though, and with today’s report stating Aston Villa can offer more, perhaps that will be the deciding factor.
