Moussa Marega has probably been linked to more than half the clubs in the Premier League. So much so it seems the Portuguese media are extending their net to include the Championship.
Saturday’s edition of Correio de Manha says ‘concrete offers’ are expected from interested sides soon, and they name Everton and West Ham as that. But Villa are also thrown into the equation.
It’s a nonsensical link. Marega surely wouldn’t swap Champions League football with Porto for Championship football at Aston Villa, given he’s an important member of the team.
Then there’s the finances. Marega has a buyout clause of €40m, although Correio de Manha believes Porto could accept €35m. That’s not happening for Aston Villa, obviously.
Everton or West Ham could afford the deal, and the Hammers are also linked by Saturday’s edition of A Bola, but given this has all gone so far that random club names seem to be being brought in, it’s a rumour on shaky ground.
Interest in the striker wouldn’t be a surprise, and seeing how much it’s being pushed to the Portuguese media it would appear Porto are getting the transfer idea out there.
Therefore, a move to the Premier League would look a reasonable scenario this summer.
