On Monday, Record explained Aston Villa have gathered positive reports about Sporting’s Pedro Gonçalves. It was also stated the English club were attentive to the 24-year-old’s display in his side’s Europa League clash against Arsenal at the Emirates last week.
Operating mainly on the left wing and in midfield, he’s managed 17 goals and nine assists from 39 matches in all competitions this season.
Observador journalist Luís Pinto Coelho was a guest on Bola na Rede’s Lei do Mercado, where he discussed Aston Villa’s interest in the versatile player.
Gonçalves scored the equaliser against Arsenal and that helped Sporting progress to the last eight of the Europa League.
He has already generated a lot of interest from elsewhere and his performance against the Gunners has ‘redoubled interest’, notably from Unai Emery’s side.
Coelho claims Aston Villa ‘want to sign’ the Portugal international in the summer, and to do this they are considering offering €40m to Sporting. This would not be accepted since it’s below the Lions’ expectations.
With the Villans keen, it remains to be seen if they would be willing to meet Sporting’s demands to sign Gonçalves.
