In the past couple of months, we’ve been following the chase for the Benfica wonderkid João Félix. Many European giants have been linked to the 19-year-old, with Manchester United and Juventus apparently being frontrunners in the race.
What we’ve also seen was West Ham United getting linked twice. They were first mentioned by the Spanish media, with AS saying the club ‘asked for the player’s price’.
And this month, the Italian press linked the Hammers to the attacker as well.
Interestingly, although these rumours normally come from Portugal, the local media never mentioned the Hammers. What they do is to report the club’s presence at Benfica’s match from last night.
As reported by newspaper A Bola, the London side had officials watching the Eagles’ 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb for the Europa League.
The newspaper doesn’t say if Félix was the man who West Ham had an eye on. The youngster entered the game in the second half, and did a good job helping the Eagles to get the win.
Premier League clubs such as Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Wolverhampton, Watford, Everton, Leicester City, Tottenham, Fulham and Newcastle all had scouts at this match as well.
