A week ago, Voetbal International’s Freek Jansen explained Arsenal are in ‘pole position’ to sign Ajax goalkeeper André Onana.
Jansen also stressed the 25-year-old would not play for the Amsterdam based club next season.
Onana’s last appearance came during Ajax’s 3-0 win over AZ Alkmaar in January.
He received a 12-month ban from UEFA, after testing positive for the usage of a banned substance. The sentence has been reduced to nine, meaning he can be back on the pitch from November onwards.
According to Foot Mercato, AS Monaco are closely following the Ajax keeper’s situation, even if their priority is to sign Bayern Munich’s Alexander Nübel this summer.
Niko Kovač is studying several profiles of several keepers, and Onana is included in this list.
The Ligue 1 side are in the picture for Onana and it may not be good news for Mikel Arteta’s side.
With Monaco following the Eredivisie player, they could snatch him away from Arsenal if a deal for Nübel doesn’t work out.
