Everton and Sunderland favourite Bryan Oviedo has been welcomed at new club LD Alajuelense as a gift from God.
La Nacion cover the 34-year-old’s move today and how it’s been welcomed with open arms by everyone associated with the Costa Rican side.
They say that Oviedo returns to the Costa Rican league ‘as if fallen from the sky’, signing for two tournaments with Liga Deportiva Alajuelense.
He will be linked to the Costa Rica side until 2025, arriving as a last-minute replacement for Rónald Matarrita, who has undergone surgery for appendicitis and needed to be replaced last minute.
They realised the former Everton and Sunderland defender was available and had not signed a contract with San Carlos so moved quickly to get him themselves.
It’s not the first time that the club had targeted Oviedo but this time the interest was mutual, as they can offer him the chance to play in the Central American Cup o Concacaf and also, potentially, the Concachampions.
It’s a transfer that suits everyone and was very much done because it was available, with Alajuelense seeing Oviedo as if he had ‘fallen from the sky’.
The move is a first return to his homeland for Oviedo, who left in 2010 and went on to have spells with FC Copenhagen, Nordsjaelland, Everton, Sunderland and then Salt Lake.
He’s now back home and being treated as if he is a gift from God, sent at the perfect time to cover what had become a major problem.
