Arsenal have reportedly made contacts to bring Marc Overmars back to the club for next season.

Currently a sports director at Ajax, the 44-year-old is in negotiations to renew his contract with the Dutch side, but could change this mind with the Gunners’ offer, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The website claims Arsenal would want ‘new airs’ at the club, and bringing Overmars to be the market man could change things a bit.

Overmars joined Arsenal from Ajax in 1997. But his successful spell at the club only lasted three years, as in 2000 he left to join Barcelona.

With a great tradition to use academy players, Ajax aren’t used to make signings on the big stage. For the current season, it’s interesting to see the three different transfers from South America they made: David Neres from São Paulo, Mateo Cassierra from Deportivo Cali and Davinson Sánchez from Libertadores champions Atlético Nacional.

Could Arsenal’s signing policy be changing that much? Fans would be hoping for something a little more high spending from Arsene Wenger, or his replacement.

It’s also curious that TMW would have the scoop on a Dutchman leaving a Dutch club for Arsenal.
