On November 20th, The Sun in England carried an exclusive report claiming Arsenal are interested in Villarreal’s Pablo Fornals as a January target and are prepared to match his €20m release.
Today’s edition of Sport has an update on The Sun’s report, which includes a response from the La Liga outfit.
They start by saying the midfielder’s qualities have made him one of the favourite targets for Unai Emery, who is looking to sign a replacement for Aaron Ramsey.
It’s mentioned that Javier Calleja’s side have responded with a ‘resounding no’, meaning the north London club cannot recruit the midfielder in the mid-season transfer window.
The Catalan newspaper further mentions that Fornals release clause is €40m and not the €20m which was reported by The Sun. Also, Villarreal are unwilling to sit down and negotiate Fornals’ exit.
It’s not just the Spaniard’s employer, his camp are also not ready to listen to any offers from the Premier League because, if the former Malaga man decides to leave his current club, then it will be for another in his own country.
If what’s mentioned in the report is true, Emery and Arsenal will need to look elsewhere in the market to find Ramsey’s successor.
That said, The Sun have been making an awful lot of claims recently about an awful lot of clubs.
