It seems Arsenal scouts were at work last night, as according to the Portuguese media, the Gunners had representatives at the Estádio do Dragão watching the Champions League clash between FC Porto and Club Brugge.
It’s newspaper O Jogo who says the London side sent officials for this match, even though it isn’t revealed if they had any specific targets to watch.
What is safe to say is that the Arsenal scouts, just like everyone else, will certainly have been impressed with Club Brugge, who managed to dominate the match and beat Porto 4-0 at the Dragons’ home stadium.
The Belgian side had four different goal-scorers and their entire team was to be praised at the end of the game. Those who managed to stand out were captain Hans Vanaken and striker Ferran Jutgla, who opened the scoring.
Now in case Arsenal went there to watch the Portuguese side, which is what the clubs normally do, then there was definitely nothing good to be seen.
The Gunners have been linked to two Porto players this year. One of them was winger Pepê, who had a decent first half, but missed a clear chance to equalise and was moved to right-back at half-time.
Otávio, who was also said to be wanted by Arsenal, wasn’t even expected to be fit for this match. With a surprising return to action, he even created that chance missed by Pepê, but that was all he could do in the 90 minutes.
So if the Gunners want to see more from them, they better return to the Estádio do Dragão another day.
