Arsenal are ‘trying to lure’ Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch to the club with an offer of Champions League football next season.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say the player plans to take advantage of the fact he will be a free agent come the summer transfer window.
The newspaper covers a range of Bundesliga transfers today, with numerous players from Germany’s top-flight all set for moves once the summer window rolls around.
Grillitsch is one of them, with his contract set to expire in the summer and him planning to become a free agent and explore his options.
He is on Sevilla’s list of potential targets, but he is not committing to anything as yet because he is aware he can ‘almost choose’ what club he will go to, ‘which he intends to do’.
What he really wants is to play in the Champions League, and Arsenal and Napoli are ‘trying to lure him’ to them with the offer of that next season.
Of course, the Gunners haven’t confirmed their place in the competition as yet, but they are in the driving seat in the race for the top four, currently sitting fourth with a two-point lead over Tottenham with four games of the season remaining.
A run of three straight wins also means they are confident they can secure a top-four place, although that can, of course, change in between now and the end of the season, particularly as they will be playing Spurs in the run-in.
Any move for Grillitsch will likely be on hold until they’ve definitely secured a place, then, although the groundwork appears to be underway so that Arsenal are ready to make their move if they do get into the Champions League as planned.
