Originally a target for Manchester City, Cengiz Ünder decided that Roma would be a better place for him to grow as a footballer instead, so that’s where he signed in the summer of 2017.
Grow he did, and now the young Turkey international is attracted a lot more attention from clubs in England, including Arsenal and Tottenham.
This is what Gazzetta dello Sport are stating on Wednesday, claiming that ‘in England, they are sure’ both Spurs and the Gunners are both monitoring his progress, alongside Bayern Munich, who are said to be ready to spend €50-60m on the youngster.
However, from what we can see, the only recent claims about Cengiz Under have all come from Italy.
Roma, understandably, aren’t all that pleased with what’s going on around their starlet, and their main aim now is to keep him for as long as possible.
To do that, they are prepared to offer him a new deal, which they are planning to present to him in 2019, that would see his salary increase to around €2m.
Bayern Munich seem like the most concrete path here, as Tottenham and Arsenal are only briefly mentioned, while the Bavarian giants’ interest is focused on a lot more.
There’s no signs of either Mauricio Pochettino or Unai Emery making a move as of yet, but we’ll keep an eye out for any developments in the near future.
