After a barren few months, the Suso rumours returned this week when it was revealed that Arsenal were looking at the Spaniard for the summer transfer window, having sent a scout to supervise him.
Strapped for cash, the Gunners could possibly have been lured by the shiny €38-40m release clause in the Milan star’s contract, knowing there would be very little negotiating needed to get their man.
However, they aren’t the only ones, as Tottenham, according to Corriere dello Sport, have also joined their North London rivals, having been big fans of the former Liverpool player for some time now.
The Italian newspaper explain a few ‘powwows’ or ‘chats’ have been held between (we’re guessing) the player’s entourage and Spurs, Arsenal and Atlético Madrid, but ‘nothing more concrete’ for now.
As they point out, this list could continue to grow between now and the summer, especially if the contract renewal talks that have reportedly started don’t go anywhere.
Milan, keen to either increase or wipe out the release clause, are ready to offer their star €4m/year, but he wants €5m to try and get closer to Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Suso has scored six goals and picked up eight assists in 26 appearances in all competitions this season, meaning he’s on course to beat last year’s tally of six and 14, hence the desire to renew.
It’s not that his current deal is close to expiring, since that was signed in 2017 until 2022, but that clause could seriously come back to bite Milan in the backside if they aren’t careful, and they know that.
Especially if Arsenal or Tottenham want to make up for their rather poor January windows next summer.
