Brazilian outlet UOL today brings an update on the situation of Grêmio defender Walter Kannemann, who could soon be moving to Europe and has been linked with Arsenal recently.
According to the website, the Brazilian side have recently managed to give the player a new contract with a new release clause.
But it still doesn’t mean he’s well protected. UOL says the release clause has gone from €5m to €10m, and is obviously still affordable for big clubs in Europe.
Now with Kannemann doing well for the club and getting caps for the national team, Grêmio are afraid that these could be the last months their defender has in Brazil.
The interest from European sides is being brought by the defender’s agents, who had been scheduling meetings with Grêmio to talk about the chase and ask for a new contract.
UOL says there are several new clubs who are interested in Kannemann, but the only one named is Arsenal. The Gunners had been linked by the English press this month and the report is recalled today.
Those claims were also backed up in Brazil at the time.
If the Gunners do go for Kannemann in the summer, it won’t be a surprise for Grêmio.
