With every new report coming out of Italy, it appears that Sergej Milinković-Savić’s future is further and further away from Lazio.
The Serbia international has long been linked with a move to Arsenal, who have been touted as interested suitors since last summer.
He turned down the chance of moving to the Emirates at the time, but is said to have changed his mind since, mostly due to the good form Mikel Arteta’s side have been him.
Wanting to play Champions League football regularly, the 27-year-old is expected to be given that chance in the summer, since his contract at Lazio expires in 2024.
That means the Serie A side will need to sell if they cannot renew him, and that last part is becoming very difficult for them.
That’s according to Il Tempo, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb, who state that ‘recent contacts’ between the midfielder’s entourage and Laizo ‘have not had the desired effects and it seems that the farewell is inevitable’.
Still, a new meeting could arrive in the upcoming international break, where the ‘hypothesis of a renewal with a rather low release clause of €40m remains’.
Should that be signed, it would make life a lot easier for Arsenal, but even if it doesn’t, they should have a decent chance of getting their man, as Lazio’s room for negotiation won’t exactly be great with just one year left on their star’s contract.
