Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber is set to return to former club Ajax this weekend for a formal farewell ahead of their clash with Feyenoord.
That’s according to Voetbal International, who say the defender will be given a ‘farewell’ appearance, which is something of a custom in the Netherlands.
Timber left Ajax to join Arsenal in a €40m deal back in July, bringing an end to a long-term association with the Dutch club.
He joined their Juvenile side as a youngster from Feyenoord in 2014 and worked his way up the various youth ranks over the following six years before making it to the first team in 2020.
He’s yet to return to the club since joining Arsenal but Voetbal International report that he will travel to the Netherlands this weekend to get a proper sendoff ahead of the derby game with Feyenoord.
They explain that he will be presented to the crowd ahead of the clash just before kick-off, where he will be thanked for what he has meant to the club.
He will then presumably watch the game, where, incidentally, his brother Quinten Timber will likely start for Feyenoord.
The opportunity has only been presented to the various parties thanks to Timber’s injury not long after arriving at Arsenal, which will see him on the sidelines for months but does mean he can travel this weekend for a real farewell.
