Since Lucas Torreira’s dad went public to admit that the midfielder’s situation is a little more complicated than it seemed, the Argentine media became more calm about it.
Loaned by Arsenal to Atletico Madrid until the end of the season, the player is unlikely to stay in Spain, and recently made public his wish to join Boca Juniors as soon as possible.
That’s why in the past couple of weeks, there’s been several stories on his chances to join the Buenos Aires side. Following his father’s statements, things went quieter, and there’s an interesting update straight from TyC Sports today.
The outlet now claims that to loan Torreira in the summer, Arsenal should demand a fee of €1m, and would not continue paying for part of his wages. The only chance of subsidising his wage was if he was returning to Uruguay, which presumably means the Gunners will help out if he’s desperate to go home but not if he’s moving elsewhere.
TyC Sports adds that Torreira and Boca Juniors are still ‘far’ from an agreement. Even though the player and club president Juan Roman Riquelme have been in touch, there’s been no offers for now, either with the midfielder or with Arsenal.
Since the 25-year-old’s salary is certainly too much for the Buenos Aires side to afford, we now see things becoming a lot harder for them, with a clear sign that Torreira’s future will depend on the Gunners’ wishes.
