As Victor Osimhen’s departure from Napoli becomes one of the big rumours in the Italian media, Arsenal continue to be pointed out as one of the main suitors for his signing this summer.

Earlier this week, we already saw newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport saying the Gunners have ‘already taken several concrete steps’ for the transfer, as Mikel Arteta looks for a new attacker.

New claims now come from journalist Fabio Santini, who on 7 Gold, says that Arsenal are actually prepared to make a huge bid to sign the Nigerian star.

“Arsenal are ready to offer a good €80m for Victor Osimhen,” said Santini (via Area Napoli).

“The player has been in the crosshairs of the English for some time, having demonstrated during his experience at Napoli that he’s a very important player, but also to still have ample room for improvement.”

Even though those numbers may sound like enough to take Osimhen from Napoli, Santini points out that it still may not convince their president to make a deal.

“President Aurelio De Laurentiis could also decide to sell the player, but at the moment he is asking at least €100m to let his centre-forward go.”

So with Arsenal being linked to other strikers, including Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus, it would indeed make sense for them to go for cheaper targets in case they don’t want to spend that much on a single signing.

In addition to that, these endless claims from media around Naples appear to be an effort to hype the player’s value. Just weeks ago it was claimed Newcastle United had offered €100m in the January window, and the situation was similar when there was interest in Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.
