David Ospina’s time as an Arsenal player is very close to coming to an end.
Last Friday, we relayed news that Napoli, where the Colombia international is currently on loan, were thinking of bypassing the automatic redemption clause (triggered after 25 appearances) to make the move permanent as soon as possible.
Well, Il Mattino on Wednesday explain that move could be made ‘in the next few hours’, especially if Arsenal agree to ‘slightly lower’ their demands (which were previously agreed at €3.5m).
Ospina’s full time arrival would then open the door for Orestis Karnezis to find himself a new club, with the Arsenal goalkeeper continuing his European adventure while Alex Meret starts in the league.
Since his arrival in the south of Italy, the 30-year-old has made 15 appearances for the Napoli, conceding 17 goals and picking up just four clean sheets.
However, his performances in the Champions League against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool were widely praised by the local media even if they ultimately weren’t enough to keep his team in the competition.
