Looking for a new centre-back to bolster their defence, Lyon are putting feelers here and there around Europe for the right man.

However, the type of player they are looking for remains unclear, as they have recently approached two very different players: a fairly young Joachim Andersen, currently at Sampdoria, and Arsenal’s experienced Laurent Koscielny.

The latter of the two is believed to be edging towards the end of his adventure with the Gunners, even if he does have a year left on his deal, and Lyon are seemingly trying to make the most of that.

According to Foot Mercato, talks have already started with the player regarding a two-year deal, with Koscielny ‘thrilled at the idea’ since he wants to return to France.

The issue for the Ligue 1 side, other than reported competition from Rennes, Monaco and Dortmund, is their need to discuss a transfer fee with Arsenal.

Despite this, Foot Mercato reckon the Gunners could help out, as a reward for outstanding service, and accept a ‘low fee’ of around €3-4m.

We’ll have to see about that.
